As the Volunteer Services Associate, I complete the first round of interviews with all volunteer applicants and also play a role in the final volunteer selection process. I love this role, as I get to share what I love about Shanti Bhavan with so many people who are also interested in the Shanti Bhavan mission!
I first volunteered for Shanti Bhavan in 2014, and it quickly became my favorite place in the world. Since then, I have been back a multitude of times and encourage all applicants to consider becoming multiple-time volunteers, as repeated exposure to campus really helps to form meaningful connections with the students, teachers, and volunteers.
Originally a teacher, I received my BS in Elementary Education from Florida State University and my MPhil in Education from the University of Cambridge. Given my background, I am a huge advocate of using education as a tool for poverty alleviation. I grew up in a military family, so I am kind of “from all over the place,” but I currently live in Austin, Texas, and work as a Program Manager for a technology company. I enjoy all of the outdoor activities that Austin has to offer with my dog, Tally.
