Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Shanti Bhavan has supported the heavily impacted villages neighboring our campus. In total, we have provided over 78,000 kg of essential supplies to the people in our local communities. For most of these families, this is the only consistent relief they’ve received.
In August, in addition to our regular distribution of food provisions, we gave every family—1,200 families making up over 5,000 men, women, and children—a cooking pot with a lid, a frying pan with a lid, and serving spoons.
Until now, these families had been using old and worn-out aluminum cooking vessels. The new vessels were custom-made for us at the steel center of South India in the town of Salem and are safe, durable, and of superior make. Cooking is a fundamental aspect of daily life, and these new utensils will offer impoverished families both dignity in living and a healthier, more enjoyable experience.
While our core mission is always the Shanti Bhavan Residential School, these rural communities rely on Shanti Bhavan for ongoing support during difficult times. Compassion, generosity, and service to others are among Shanti Bhavan’s core values. Every day we strive to model these ideals for our children.
Our next distribution is scheduled for October 17th, 2021. With your help, Shanti Bhavan will continue to support our neighbors.
- A gift of $50 will support one family of four for one month.
- A gift of $100 will support one family of four for two months.
Thank you once again for helping our children’s communities.
