Dear Friends and Supporters of Shanti Bhavan,
COVID-19 continues to disproportionately affect India’s rural population. Many are day laborers who frequently earn less than $2 per day; that income has now dwindled due to government-mandated lockdowns. Construction of office buildings has come to a virtual halt, leaving many migrant laborers from rural areas out of work. Additionally, due to the remote location of their villages, consistent aid often does not reach them or their families, or they must walk miles for aid.
In April 2020, despite uncertainty about the future, we made the important decision to support the surrounding villages near our campus. Since then, thanks to your generosity and help, we have assisted over 2000 families. That means you have directly impacted the lives of over 9000 men, women, and children.
So far, Shanti Bhavan has provided 8000 kg of rice, 3670 kg of spices, 1100 liters of cooking oil, 2200 units of soap, and other essential provisions. We purchase only high-quality goods from the German wholesale distributor, METRO, affording the impoverished the respect and dignity everyone deserves.
To ensure maximum benefit, we have multiple pick-up locations across several villages. We use these distribution hubs to educate individuals on the importance of social distancing, wearing masks, and following other essential COVID-19 guidelines. Shanti Bhavan’s outreach continues to be the only consistent relief these individuals receive.
Our next distribution is scheduled for February 27th and 28th.
With your support, Shanti Bhavan will continue to help our neighbors.
A gift of $50 will support one family of 4 for one month.
A gift of $100 will support one family of 4 for two months.
Compassion, generosity, and service to others are among Shanti Bhavan’s core values. Every day we strive to model these ideals for our children. Through our COVID-19 outreach, we have shown them the importance of community service, and your support of that outreach has demonstrated the multiplicative effect a strong community can have. Thank you for your continued belief in Shanti Bhavan and the work we do during this unprecedented time.
